We are proud to announced that Morello has produced two wind turbine blades self propelled modular transporters, powered by batteries, for the transport of the world’s longest wind turbine blade: 107 meters in length! In order to handle a blade of this length it was necessary to design 2 modular transporters, each with a capacity of 60 tons, that could operate in synchronized fashion over 80 meters apart!

Our software engineers took on an extremely challenging job to make sure that the two wind turbine blades self propelled modular transporters could communicate and automatically correct their trajectories at such a great distance and with such a flexible load.
Especially when you consider, among other things, that the two transporters are able to perform, both individually and when paired, many different type of maneuvers: rotation around their own axis, lateral movements, diagonal movements, etc.
Being omnidirectional, they are able to move the wind turbine blade with extreme efficiency, even in relatively tight spaces.
Both wind turbine blades self propelled modular transporters have raisable loading beds. This feature is fundamental in making sure that the transport of the blade, which rests on special supports, can be performed in a completely autonomous fashion, that is to say, without cranes or gantries. Thanks to these transporters it is possible to move the blade inside the factory, around the yard or at the shipping dock.

These transporters are also equipped with hydraulic suspension that can work over irregular terrain without damaging the transported load.
An important feature of these wind turbine blades self propelled modular transporters is their battery power supply. A clean, non-polluting energy source was one of the main requirements of this customer, who, working in the area of renewable energy, paid particular attention to the environmental aspect.

The turbine on which this blade will be mounted is the most powerful wind turbine in the world, to date. It is a 12 MW offshore turbine that will be built in the middle of the ocean.
This 12 MW wind turbine will be able to generate 67 GWh of clean energy per year, equivalent to the average requirement of 16,000 European homes.

Morello has designed and manufactured a laser-guided omnidirectional automated guided cart (LGV), with raisable loading bed, for a well-known company that makes machinery for the food and beverage sector.

The AGV is part of a larger project, an automated warehouse for the storage of materials of large weight and size.
The technology that allows this cart to travel with full autonomy is what we call “laser-guidance”. At a height of approximately 3 meters we install a special laser that, constantly rotating at high speed, intercepts reflectors stationed around the facility, allowing the software to triangulate the position and orientation of the omnidirectional automated guided cart on which the laser is mounted.

The software then plans the best course according to the task provided by the automatic warehouse management system.
Communication between the AGV cart and the management software installed on a PC on the ground is through Wi-Fi technology.
In spite of the large size of the cart and the load it carries, this Morello omnidirectional automated guided cart can move agilely about the plant thanks to its omnidirectional steering technology. All of the wheels are in fact indipendent and the cart can therefore move in standard fashion, at 90°, rotate about itself (carousel), move diagonally and travel around a point (compass).
The AGV is also equipped with a raisable loading bed with a 200 mm range in order to be able to load and deposit warehouse pallets onto suitable supports.

Thanks to its enormous experience in the battery powered electric cart sector, Morello has succeeded in achieving a positioning accuracy at loading/unloading stations of ±5 mm.
To achieve maximum efficiency the omnidirectional automated guided cart is powered by a high energy density lithium battery that is automatically fully recharged at available charging stations.

Battery powered electric SPMTs are in growing demand by companies the world over who want to be able to move very large and heavy materials in an eco-friendly and cost-efficient manner. Electric batteries and full electric power render these modular SPMTs ideal for use both indoors and out, guaranteeing total flexibility. Aside from being non-polluting, battery powered electric SPMTs with electric motors are also extremely quiet and, above all, clean. Standard modular SPMTs today are manufactured with multiple hydraulic motors and hydrostatic transmissions. For a major EPC company operating in the oil and gas sector, Morello has designed and produced a series of electric omnidirectional explosion proof trolleys.
These battery powered explosion proof trolleys have been designed taking into account very special requirements of the customer, who needed to move extremely heavy materials on special ships used for collecting and storing oil and natural gas, called FPSO and FLNG.

In order to be able to operate under such a demanding environment, the explosion proof trolleys had to conform to extremely rigid technical specifications.
First of all the machine had to be suitable for working in an offshore environment, which can be extremely corrosive for all of the onboard components. There is also the risk of water spouts, some very violent. For this reason stainless steel components are used with a minimum IP65 protection.

Another very complex challenge that has to be faced is the fact that these explosion proof trolleys have to operate on a ship. A ship presents three main problems for trolleys carrying heavy loads: it is in constant motion, has pitch and also roll. In the first place it is therefore necessary to calculate how the forces deriving from this movement influence the structure of the trolley and of the ship’s floor, which is not suited to support extremely high peak loads. Moreover it is necessary to calculate the power requirements needed to operate these explosion proof trolleys, taking into account the the fact that the pitch and roll involve even higher gradients that need to be overcome (over 16%!). Finally, it was necessary to carefully consider safety factors, guaranteeing a coefficient of friction suitable for avoiding slippage in cases of sudden movements of the ship and overturning of the trolley from a shift in the center of gravity of the transported load.

In addition to the above mentioned issued, perhaps the most critical is the environment at risk of explosion typical of ships used for the extraction and storage of fossil fuels. For this reason these explosion proof
trolleys are fitted exclusively with ATEX components and are ATEX certified by a certifying body that has inspected the design and production.
One very special feature of these explosion proof trolleys is that they have been provided with a battery charging station that is also ATEX certified. Consequently, it is possible to recharge the trolleys’ batteries even in ATEX classified, danger zones.
Given the restricted spaces of a ship these explosion proof trolleys are completely omnidirectional, and can therefore move in any direction, optimizing the maneuvering space.

Morello has recently manufactured a full electric truck for the transport of large loads inside industrial plants

In fact, ever more frequently, companies the world over are having to deal with the problem of pollution caused by diesel vehicles. The movement of diesel vehicles inside plants is starting to be often prohibited, even out-of-doors. For this reason, many of our customers are converting their transport vehicles, even those of the largest capacity, from ones powered by combustion engines to those with electric motors run on battery.
In particular, in many they are replacing the diesel trucks they use to move materials from one warehouse to another with battery powered electric trucks. These electric trucks are also very useful insofar as, in addition to making outdoor transport more eco-friendly, they also have the possibility of working inside warehouses, indoors, something that diesel trucks cannot do.

Our full electric truck also has some extremely beneficial features making it the perfect eco-friendly replacement for diesel trucks. This vehicle is powered by a high energy density lithium battery, which allows for extremely fast recharging times. Hence, autonomy is not a problem, even for companies that work 3 shifts.

This full electric truck, thanks to its electric motor, controlled by PLC and the latest generation of inverter, enjoys an extremely high level of efficiency. This efficiency, along with the minor cost of electrical energy when compared to the costs of diesel, guarantees an annual savings in the thousands of dollars, making this full electric truck more economical in the midterm than a truck with a combustion engine.

Ultra-low loading height for maximum efficiency

The standout feature of this electric cart is its exceptionally low loading bed, just 600 mm from the ground. Despite its impressive load capacity, the cart can easily slide under dies or components placed on low supports. This low height also keeps the load’s center of gravity closer to the ground, enhancing stability and safety during transport.

The platform can lift loads vertically by approximately 120 mm while remaining level. This eliminates the need for cranes or gantries, even for loads of this size, streamlining handling and increasing efficiency.

Exceptional maneuverability and ergonomic control

The die transfer cart is equipped with rear-wheel steering capable of ±90° rotation, allowing it to pivot around its fixed wheels and turn in exceptionally tight spaces.
